American Radio Works won a Peabody Award for their enthralling radio documentary entitled “The Great Textbook War.”

It’s incredible reporting, very even handed but nonetheless very illuminating. It’s a situation that reverberates through many contemporary topics. The recent Texas BOE decision being the most obvious.

What should children learn in school? It’s a question that’s stirred debate for decades, and in 1974 it led to violent protests in West Virginia. Schools were hit by dynamite, buses were riddled with bullets, and coal mines were shut down. The fight was over a new set of textbooks.
